About Memberships
Workshop sessions
Workshops sessions are opportunities for you to use the workshop, largely independently, for your own projects. While there will always be a supervisor on site, the idea is that you the space and the tools on your own. That doesn’t mean you can’t ask for help of course - just that there is no teaching or instruction going on.
Some membership types include workshop sessions as part of the fee, and anyone can purchase additional sessions. We also plan in future to add the ability to ‘earn’ additional workshop sessions by attending (or running) Skills Clinics. Until that is set up, Community members will be given one free workshop session per month.
Skills clinics
These are informal skills sharing sessions. Unlike courses, there is no teacher, the idea is that one of our members (maybe even you!) volunteers to run a short session on a very specific topic, for example how to sharpen a chisel or how to use a plane.
They may give a demonstration or guide you through doing it, but they may equally just show a video or host a discussion. All with refreshments and friendly woodworker banter!
Project storage
We’ve got a great space and you can use this to store in-progress projects large and small. Just not your spare crockery and childhood toys that you couldn’t bear to throw away.
How to use Hello Club
Hello Club is where you manage your membership, sign up for events and book courses.
Joining BenchSpace
The first step is to create your account. This includes creating a login (note that even if you log in with with Google or Facebook, HelloClub also asks you to create a password, which is a bit weird but there you go). You then select the membership type you want from the drop down menu (on your phone or smaller mobile device this might not be immediately obvious), set up your payment and you’re in!
If you’re joining as a Community Member you won’t be asked to pay, but you will need to send us a copy of your community services card or Te Toi Mahana tenancy agreement.
Registering for an event
To register for an event in Hello Club, navigate to the Calendar (not Bookings) on the left-hand side.
Once opened you can change the view and filter by types of events you wish to see using the icons in the top right hand side of the screen. If you change to monthly view, you can see all the upcoming events for the month. Simply click on any event and sign up. Some events are free (for members); workshop sessions are paid for by first purchasing a coupon (see below); and other events require payment upon booking.
Buying more coupons
Your monthly membership either provides you with no, one or four coupons to sign up to the weekly workshop sessions. If you want to purchase more coupons, once signed on, navigate to Coupons on the left-hand side of the screen. On the next page, select the coupon(s) you wish to purchase and proceed to the payment page.
If you have any problems with any of this, please contact us.
